Currency Exchange Nha Trang: Bank, Airport, Legal Rules
Change money at a bank first: a Vietcombank rate table shows cash buy, transfer buy and sell columns, and not posting rates at the place of transaction is fined. The Cam Ranh airport has a counter in terminal T2. Trading at a place not permitted to exchange currency is punished.

Read the board before you hand over a single note: Vietcombank’s table has cash buy, transfer buy and sell columns, so the dong you get for the same dollars depends on the column. Use a bank first, the airport counter second, and skip any shop or street changer that is not permitted to exchange foreign currency, because trading there is punished.
| Where | Rates on show | ID or papers | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bank branch | Vietcombank table: cash buy, transfer buy, sell | BIDV: ID card, citizen ID or passport | Most visitors and residents |
| Cam Ranh airport counter (T2) | — | — | Dong for the first taxi or bus |
| Shop or street changer | Posting rates is required | — | Only if it is permitted to exchange currency |
Checked November 2026.
Which bank rate will you get?
Read the sell and buy columns before you decide, because one example day shows how far apart they sit. This is one day’s example, not a current rate, so open the bank’s table on the day you go.
| Vietcombank, USD, 2 November 2026 | VND |
|---|---|
| Cash buy | 25,580 |
| Transfer buy | 25,610 |
| Sell | 25,990 |
On that day the sell figure was higher than both buy figures.
What do you bring to a bank counter?
Bring your passport: at BIDV an individual who wants to buy or sell foreign currency only needs a valid ID card, citizen ID or passport. The rest of the list:
- Papers proving what the currency is for, if you have any.
- The cash, or a BIDV payment account.
- At Agribank, a spot buy or sell request on its own form, with other papers as the State Bank and Agribank require.
Where is the Vietcombank branch in Nha Trang?
The branch moved in May 2022 to 14 Le Thanh Ton Street, Nha Trang. The same notice gave hours of 7:15–11:30 and 13:30–17:15, Monday to Friday, so confirm them on Maps before you travel.
Is there a counter at Cam Ranh airport?

What does the law say about shops and street changers?
Buying or selling foreign currency at an organisation that is not permitted to exchange it is punished, and the penalty grows with the amount. These rules apply from 9 February 2026.
Phạt cảnh cáo đối với một trong các hành vi vi phạm sau đây: … b) Mua, bán ngoại tệ tại tổ chức không được phép thu đổi ngoại tệ mà ngoại tệ mua, bán có giá trị dưới 1.000 đô la Mỹ (hoặc ngoại tệ khác có giá trị tương đương);
Buying or selling foreign currency at an organisation not permitted to exchange it, for an amount under USD 1,000, is punished with a warning.
Decree 340/2025/NĐ-CP, Điều 27 khoản 1 điểm b
| Amount traded | Penalty |
|---|---|
| Under USD 1,000 | Warning |
| USD 1,000 to under USD 10,000 | VND 10,000,000–20,000,000 |

| USD 100,000 or more | VND 80,000,000–100,000,000 |
A repeat or multiple violation under USD 1,000 draws the VND 10,000,000–20,000,000 fine. An organisation committing the same violation is fined twice the individual amount, and confiscation of the foreign currency is an additional penalty for the larger-amount violations.
Do you need cash from a card instead?
If a counter is closed or the line is long, withdraw dong with your card; fees and limits are in our ATM guide for foreign cards. For other money traps, see our guide to scams in Nha Trang.
